Finished in 14th place!

We finished in 14th place. We had a rough last couple weeks – we played some good teams who just consistently beat our average. While some of us beat our average the last few weeks, there weren’t really any games where we all beat our average on the same game – more like 1 or 2 of us would have a good game, but that would be negated by someone else having a bad game, all while the other team’s players would have 3 out of 4 players having “the best night of the season”. (how lucky we got to be a part of it!)

But we finished in the top half – awesome job considering we aren’t long time league bowlers! We all won some money, (like 10-20, depending on how often you bowled) so unless you missed a payment or something I'll pay you when I see you next!
Please respond to this blog post if you’re interested in bowling next year, if you haven't already – the season starts January 3rd and January is a 5 Tuesday month, so if you’re interested please let me know your availability for January as well. (and don’t forget, our averages start over in January as well)
Here’s the season’s high scores:

Pearl - 155

Agnes – 135

Wilbur - 175

Gus – 247

Esme – 176

Eudors 189

Millicent – 168

Ethel - 146

Good job, enjoy your break and hope to see most, if not all, of you next year!

December schedule

Here's December's schedule:

We were in 5th last week, but we played the Starrs and only one one game. (they have a couple of pretty good bowlers on their team; one of which Gus and I have seen bowl a 299 before...he's the kind of guy that does a little celebration move as his ball first hits the pins because he knows they are all going down). But hey, we won one game and if we can win one game every time we're doing pretty well - and should stay in the top 3rd.

Reply via blog post if you're interested in bowling in January-the "season" starts over.

Good job team!

Quick update - we won 2 out of 3 Tuesday! We were in 9th place, so we're likely at least still there or moving up!! EXCELLENT JOB!!

Now, I just need to work in a practice game or 4 before my next outing so I don't suck it up!

November schedule & standing

Esme let me know as of last night we were in 10th place! Woo hoo! And, the team won 5 points out of 7, so that means we're likely still in 10th, if not up a spot or two, allright team!!!

Here's the November schedule -  thanks for the availability this month - the schedule was a lot easier to do and I have several of you bowling 3x a month.

Please let me know if you have issues.

Also, we only bowl two weeks in December - the season is over December 13th and starts again the first Tuesday of the year. I don't need an answer yet, but if you know you're NOT available to bowl next year, let me know. (otherwise I'll do a status check at the end of next month)

Update!

Tuesday was the position round - we were in 12th place. We won 2 of the 3 games (took 5 of 7 points), so I expect we'll stay where we are at least, if not move up a couple spots. Its pretty tight in the 4-15th range; totally possible to totally mix things up... if the teams in 4th-8th place have two off nights in a row and teams in our spot have 2 good nights in a row, that kind of thing.

I need to say thanks to Gus, Eudora (who bowled a 186!!!) and Wilbur for carrying me - aside from my first game I missed my average big time...and with a 111 average that's not ok! Gus and I need a practice night, that's for sure. (ok, HE doesn't need a practice night, but he's gonna get one!)

Accomplishments so far:
Name               High Game                High Series (total of all 3 games)
Pearl                  148                           367
Agnes                135                           357
Wilbur               175                            439
Gus                    247                           707* highest series ever!!!!
Esme                 118                            336
Eudora              186                            462*this is at least a few pins off; I'll confirm and update, but its close
Millicent            168                            404
Ethel                  128                           330

Good luck to Esme, Agnes, Ethel and Eudora next Tuesday!

And...Agnes, if you need any motivation for next week....

oooooh....aaaaahhh....
;)

October Schedule

Here's the schedule for October - let me know asap if there are any conflicts.

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Update; looking good so far....

Well, Eudora reminded me I hadn’t posted any updated on the blog yet (sorry!!) so here you go. As of last week, we were in 8th place. Last night I think we won 2 out of 3 games, (both our team and the other team had people establishing their averages so sorry I’m not 100% sure), so we should still be in the top half; maybe still even the top 3rd.  :)

So far everyone’s done an excellent job of keeping their initial average beatable, so good job!! Although I’ll be honest, I stunk it up last night! I went bowling the night before for a work team building thing and bowled by best game ever (I think) a 176!! Yeah…and then it didn’t go so well on actual league night – missed my average 2 out of 3 games! Boo Pearl!!!

But, luckily it’s a team sport and we did well, go team!!

Anyway, I also have the lane schedule for the rest of the season; it will be posted with the schedule from now on but here it is for the rest of September:

20th: lanes 5 & 6

27th: lanes 31 & 32

New season schedule

Let me know asap if you can't make it.

I'll try to update next week with lane assignments, if they give them to us.

Da Rules....

To the newbies (and a recap for the rest):
  • I use the blog for all official bowling communications-the schedule is posted, results (when I can) are posted, etc. Feel free to blog yourself as well; if you're interested let me know and I'll ad you as an admin.
  • I try to post the schedule the last week of the month.
  • Our team name is the Brew Crew. You need to pick out your "old person" name. Currently, Pearl (Christina), Gus (Terry), Esme (Natalie), Ethel (Maria), Wilbur (Doug) and Agnes (Andrea) are taken. Although Abe and Opal are not playing this time around, don't take their names either- yet! :)
  • Don't forget you'll need to get your own shirts to match the team. We get our shirts at a local company called Cruisin USA-its on Olive, just north of the loop. They have a website or you can call and place your order, and pick it up there. We wear the Black and White Retro Bowler (item RBSWBBNK)and get the "Brew Crew" screenprint on the pack and our names on the front of the shirts.
  • If something comes up and you are going to miss your scheduled night- you are ultimately responsible for finding someone else on the team to take your place. If you can't, you can either get to the center and pre-bowl (go bowl by yourself before bowling night and have the scores count for that night) or bowl "absent". You pay for the night of bowling either way.
  • Please note "Bowling absent"- is a disadvantage to the team because your score is 10 less than your average, so please use this sparingly.
  • The first night should NOT be your best night. I won't use the term "sandbag" but feel free to suck your first 3 games. The rest of the season will be easiest if your average is low and easy to beat each night.
  • Many of us also play a card game during the night-$1 per game, so $3 a night. You get cards for strikes and spares and try to build the best poker hand. You're not required to play, but if you're going to, please bring some singles.
Assuming we're returning back to the Brunzwick Zone off of Olive and Woods Mill:
  • the season starts Tuesday, August 30th.
  • Bowling, assuming we bowl at the same place, is $15 per week, and includes 3 games. The season is 16 weeks total. You can pay in cash or check (no credit cards).
  • Get to the bowling center around 6:30-6:45. We're given 15 minutes every night to practice, then it starts at 7. If you're running late, let us know. You can get there around 15-20 minutes late and catch up, but let me know if you're going to be late.
I haven't found any other place that will work - but I'll keep you posted.

Ok, I think that's it.I'll see you guys soon!

15th place, not to shabby!

As you probably know by now, we finished 15th. A significant improvement where we finished last season, (21st) so good job Brew Crew!! All in all, its where we should be, somewhere in the middle 3rd.

Some quick stats on this season’s accomplishments (averages do not include the last night):

Pearl- average 118, high game 164
Ethel- average 108, high game 144
Opal- average 82, high game 103
Esme- average 118, high game 161
Agnes- average 122, high game 154
Abe- average 159, high game 191
Wilbur- average 134, high game 174
Gus- average 188, high game 243

I’ll be seeing most of you soon to distribute the winnings. I’m not sure how they calculate the winning amounts, because Wilbur noticed the 4th place team only got like $25 or $30 more than us….but the Malcontents (who were 24th) got $50 less than us (total). I think they might factor in the number of bowlers, but I’m not sure…

Next season starts August 30th, let me know if you’re interested and in the meantime enjoy your summer and try to get a couple practice rounds in.

Fallin'....

Sorry guys, we lost all 3 games. Ouch. One was really close (so close each of us were like "I alone could've done that game if only I'd done better in that one frame") but the others weren't as close. None of us could have a good (or even decent) game at the same time and to make it worse, they had someone prebowl who had 3 great games in a row!! I got a 154 the first game...but that wasn't enough to counteract the one guy's 279! (his average is 183) I didn't do so well the last 2 games, and at least 2 members of the other team were consistently beating their average each and every game...so, we lost all 3. Fallin hurts.
So we were tied for 10th, but I expect we fell to around to between 15-18th place. Gus and I will practice this weekend and lets hope we can win a couple in the playoffs next week to finish strong in the top 15-20!!!

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

Still in the top half

After last week we "fell" to 13th place -we're tied in # of games won for 12th, but the other team has more total pins. I was a little shocked we dropped a notch, as we won 5 of 7, but oh well.
Those lanes at the far end (1-6) suck, I'll tell you that. Our balls were not behaving the way we (or the other team) wanted them to, but we managed to win 5 out of 7 again. (that last one we lost by 13 pins!!! Argh- so frustrating!!) So, I imagine we're still around 11-15th place.
Anyway, Gus and I are off the next two weeks, so please update us with your results. Also, the last two weeks are already paid for, so you guys pay me that night. (vs the bowling alley)

We do plan on getting in a practice the weekend before we bowl again-don't worry, we want to finish strong! Keep it up, guys - lets keep in the top 15!!!

April Schedule

Well, we were in 12th, but we won 5 points out of 7 last night (by a hair - we took total pins by 9!!) so hopefully that helped us move back up a little bit. Let's all hit the lanes with the free play cards and get a round of practice in before the last month, so we can finish strong!!

Here's the last schedule, along with the lane assignments, let me know if you have any questions/concerns:

Um...we don't belong here....

Well, last Tuesday was a position round....we played the President and Secretary's team, Who Gives A Shit. (who, by the way, have averages of 177, 203, 208 and 149 (the girl on the team). So, while we were in 3rd, we were really playing in the big leagues above our head...we joked about how we're supposed to be in Coach but somehow are up in First Class. :)

We lost all 3 games. We just played poorly, below our overall abilities. My ball wouldn't do anything I wanted it to...when I wanted it to curve, it went straight. When I wanted it to go straight, it suddenly found a curve. Grr. Anyway, the other team experienced the same frustrations - many of them bowled below their averages too - which should've meant we could win a game, but nope. Anyway, no big deal, we're still should be around the top 10, back in Coach, where we belong.

Anyway, I updated the schedule with the lane assignments - they actually gave them to us this year and I just ran across them.

Gus and I will be gone the week of the 15th, so if you need to switch, please email each other, not me. (actually, it would probably be best if you always just emailed everyone instead of me all the time, but for sure I won't be checking email from Curacao!) :)

Next up is Pearl, Emse, Agnes, and Opal. Good luck and good bowling!

March Schedule

Here's the march schedule, let me know if there are issues!!

Bad weather and bowling

Normally if the weather is questionable, the league president and secretary usually make the call to cancel no later than 4 or 5pm and then call the bowling alley - they don't call us. You'll need to call the bowling alley at 314-469-6550 and ask if the Lousy Bowler's league is still scheduled. I just called and there was a message from yesterday, saying the alley closed early and they will re-open at 9am today, if the weather allows. Seeing how its 11:36, I'm guessing they, along with the entire metro area, aren't in today either and that bowling is cancelled tonight. I will try to call again later today, but please, if you remember, call and if you get a confirmation that yes, they are closed tonight, please comment on the blog to let us all know.

If it is cancelled, we're keeping our schedule I put out. (So Pearl, Abe, Gus, Agnes are up next week, 2/8) They will usually tack the extra day onto the end of the season.

So far so good!

Go Brew Crew! We won all games last night, and all the games the week before....that puts us in really good standing! Of course, we need to keep up the good work and practice! Gus and I have more of those free bowling cards, let us know if you want some to go practice, or if you think we should have a team practice night!!

I'm sending the email for Feb's schedule out in a bit!
